Shinzo Dojo
Shinzo Dojo Training
We have an established Dojo situated in Mitchell, (Northern) Canberra which is easy to get to from all areas of the ACT. Shinzo Dojo means ‘heart in hall’ and was originally founded in Nundah, Brisbane in 2013. Our Dojo was founded by Sensei Brendon Cunningham in 2016 and Sensei Mirko Milic took over as head instructor in February 2019. Our Dojo is run independently however, we have a strong affiliation with the KSK Union (Kyokushin School of Karate) which is headed by Shihan Vavitis (Melbourne, Australia) and Shihan Kupa (Hastings, NZ). Our Dojo is fully equipped with a matted training floor over 110m2 in size with 4 large punching bags. We have a full range of training equipment including 4 big mitts and plenty of pads to get your training under way. Membership to our dojo allows access to all training sessions and facilities. Over 18’s are given 24 hour access. New students have the opportunity to train with two very experienced Kyokushin practitioners who teach Karate in true ‘budo’ (martial arts) spirit.
Shinzo Dojo Family
Our Dojo is very family friendly and we have many parents and children training together. Children can start training from an early age and some adults train well into their 70’s making Kyokushin attractive for all ages.
Our training involves all aspects of the Kyokushin syllabus and is suitable for anyone looking for improved fitness, flexibility and coordination. It is also a very effective and practical fighting system and one of the most respected forms of karate worldwide.
Kyokushin fighters are often referred to as the closest thing to a modern day Samurai.
What is Kyokushin?
Kyokushin is a style of stand-up, full contact Japanese karate, founded in 1964 by Korean-Japanese Masutatsu Oyama.
"Kyokushin" in Japanese means "the ultimate truth" and is rooted in a philosophy of self-improvement, discipline and hard training.
Kyokushin training consists of three main elements: technique, forms, and sparring. These are sometimes referred to as the three "K's" after the Japanese words for them: kihon (basics), kata (Imaginary forms of Fight), and kumite (sparring).
At Shinzo Dojo we also teach practical and 'street' effective self defense techniques and assist all students in achieving their personal Karate goals.
